FireFree Spring Clean up

FireFree encourages residents to get prepared for the upcoming wildfire season by cleaning up your yards and creating a defensible space around your home.

Now through May 10th, residents can bring in yard waste and debris to Knott Landfill located at 61050 SE 27th Street in Bend and recycle yard waste and debris at no charge.

Residents can also pick up some BioFine or SoilBuilder compost at Deschutes Recycling. Our compost will give your garden the nutrients it needs for healthy plants.

Free Document Shred Event in Prineville


Privacy is the newest consumer awareness issue, and is the fasting growing crime in the U.S.
Confidential information in your trash is a risk.

SecureShred, a division of Bend Garbage & Recycling, and South Valley Bank in Prineville are partnering to offer residents the opportunity to safely destroy personal documents. The free shred event is Saturday, May 9th from 10:00am - 2:00pm at South Valley Bank located at 1570 NE 3rd Street in Prineville.

Documents will be shredded on site and you can even watch the shredding the camera on the SecureShred truck! This is a great time to clean up outdated records.

The event is intended for private residential document shredding only, not for business or company disposal.

SecureShred offers complete on-site document destruction at your home or business. We also offer walk-in service at our Bend Garbage & Recycling and High Country Disposal offices in Bend and Redmond.

The free shred event is Saturday, April 18th from 11:00am – 2:00pm at the Mid Oregon Credit Union Olney Branch, on the corner of 2nd and Olney in Bend. Documents will be shredded on site and you can even watch the shredding through the camera on the SecureShred truck. This is a great time to clean up outdated records.

Bring a can of food and help support the Salvation Army.

Nominations for Commercial 2009 Recycler of the Year Award

Send in your nominations for our annual Commercial “Recycler of the Year” Award.

Let us know of your favorite restaurant or business that goes the extra mile to recycle more or is innovative in their efforts with recycling.

Also let us know if there is someone within the business who has been a major contributor or spearheaded ways to recycle more for the company.

Guidelines for nominations are that the business be a customer of Bend Garbage & Recycling. Criteria are based on volume of recycling, frequency, consistent care with preparation and overall effort to recycle everything possible!

FREE Document Shredding Event in Bend

Help Protect Your Identity!

SecureShred, a division of Bend Garbage & Recycling, and the Deschutes County Sheriff's office are partnering on Saturday, March 14, 2009 in Bend to provide residents the opportunity to safely destroy personal documents and learn identity theft prevention tips.

SecureShred will offer on-site document destruction at no cost to the public from 12:00pm - 4:00pm at the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office parking lot, 63333 W. Highway 20 in Bend. Residents are invited to bring their personal documents for proper disposal.

This event is intended for private residential document shredding only, not for business or company disposal. No advance document sorting necessary. The SecureShred truck will destroy paperwork with paper clips and staples.

Hazardous Waste Disposal

Household hazardous waste materials are accepted at the Hazardous Waste Facility at Knott Landfill in Bend, 61050 SE 27th Street. The hazardous waste facility operates on the 2nd and 4th Friday and Saturday of each month from 9:00am - 3:00pm.

Acceptable items include: fluorescent tubes and bulbs, pesticides, chemicals, fuels, poisons, aerosols, cleaning products, fertilizers, thermometers and more.

Businesses can participate but must pre-register and submit an inventory. Forms are available on the Deschutes County Solid Waste Facility's website.

Remember paint and used motor oil may be recycled and can be brought to Deschutes Recycling also located at Knott Landfill.

President's Day Collection Schedule

On President's Day, February 16, 2009, Bend Garbage & Recycling will be on a regular collection schedule for garbage & recycling.

Bend Garbage & Recycling's office will also be open from 8:00am - 4:30pm.
