BGR Goes to Monthly Billing

As of January 1, 2009, residential customers of Bend Garbage and Recycling will now be billed on a monthly basis. Previous billing covered two months of service. Now, the new billing will reflect one month of service. Monthly billing will allow BGR the ability to communicate to customers in a more timelier basis.

For BGR residential customers who take advantage of the Auto Payment Plan, account deductions will occur monthly instead of every-other-month.

Bend Garbage & Recycling customer service is available to help with any questions regarding services offered.

Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm.

New Changes in Electronic Recycling

New Statewide E-Waste Program
Effective January 1, 2009, residents can bring up to seven computers, laptops, monitors and televisions per visit to Deschutes Recycling, located at Knott Landfill in Bend, and recycle these electronics at no charge. All brands of computers, monitors and TV's are accepted for free recycling. The Negus Transfer Station in Redmond is also accepting these items at no charge.

This statewide program was developed to help lessen the amount of electronic waste going in the landfill. As of January 1, 2010 in Oregon all computers, monitors and televisions will no longer be accepted for disposal in the landfill.

At Deschutes Recycling, all other peripherals such as keyboards, mice, speakers, printers and other electronic items and appliances will continue to be subject to a charge.

"We are pleased to be a part of this new statewide program with DEQ. Deschutes Recycling has always offered recycling of E-waste but now that some of these products can be recycled for free, we expect to see an increase in electronics coming to Deschutes Recycling", Brad Bailey President Deschutes Recycling.

For more information about the program, residents can go to www.oregonecycles.org

FireFree Event at Deschutes Recycling a Huge Success

In support of FireFree, Deschutes Recycling offered residents an opportunity to recycle their yard debris and brush for half price. Residents took advantage of this discount and over the 16 day event, 7,415 cubic yards of yard debris and brush were brought to Deschutes Recycling. The yard debris will be recycled into compost and clean energy fuel.

This program was in support of Project Wild Fire and FireFree to help residents use this event as an alternative to fall burning and recycle combustible vegetation around their homes.

Yard Debris Recycling Sale in November

FireFree announces a Fire Sale at Deschutes Recycling, located at Knott Landfill, running Saturday, November 1 - Sunday November 16.

Deschutes Recycling will accept your flammable yard waste and debris at Knott Landfill for half off the regular price. For the 16 day event, yard debris disposal will cost only $2.00 per yard. The yard debris will be recycled and diverted from the landfill.

FireFree encourages residents to complete their fall clean up and maintenance of defensible space by brining branches, leaves, shrubs, and pine needles to Deschutes Recycling.

"We hope residents will take advantage of this new FireFree event as an alternative to fall burning and recycle the combustible vegetation around their homes," recommends Kate Lighhall, Program Coordinator for the FireFree program.

Residents are encouraged to visit www.FireFree.org for more information on reducing the structural ignitability of homes and Get in the FireFree Zone!
