FireFree Event at Deschutes Recycling a Huge Success

In support of FireFree, Deschutes Recycling offered residents an opportunity to recycle their yard debris and brush for half price. Residents took advantage of this discount and over the 16 day event, 7,415 cubic yards of yard debris and brush were brought to Deschutes Recycling. The yard debris will be recycled into compost and clean energy fuel.

This program was in support of Project Wild Fire and FireFree to help residents use this event as an alternative to fall burning and recycle combustible vegetation around their homes.

Yard Debris Recycling Sale in November

FireFree announces a Fire Sale at Deschutes Recycling, located at Knott Landfill, running Saturday, November 1 - Sunday November 16.

Deschutes Recycling will accept your flammable yard waste and debris at Knott Landfill for half off the regular price. For the 16 day event, yard debris disposal will cost only $2.00 per yard. The yard debris will be recycled and diverted from the landfill.

FireFree encourages residents to complete their fall clean up and maintenance of defensible space by brining branches, leaves, shrubs, and pine needles to Deschutes Recycling.

"We hope residents will take advantage of this new FireFree event as an alternative to fall burning and recycle the combustible vegetation around their homes," recommends Kate Lighhall, Program Coordinator for the FireFree program.

Residents are encouraged to visit www.FireFree.org for more information on reducing the structural ignitability of homes and Get in the FireFree Zone!
